Configuring Email Accounts

If you are brand new to the email world, we recommend you skip this document and use webmail.

Email can be checked using an application on your computer or by using webmail. If setting up an application on your computer, one of the first questions you’ll be presented with is which protocol or connection method you want to use. The difference is significant, so take a few minutes and read through this guide before setting up your accounts.

Choose which email protocol is best for you

POP3

Ideal if you will only check email from one location
Messages are downloaded to your computer
Mail storage is rarely an issue

IMAP

Ideal if you will check from multiple computers, or will also use webmail
Messages are stored on the server
Mail storage can become an issue and businesses should monitor user quotas
